2: TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
Early morning breakfast before you get a comprehensive
safari briefing.
Depart for the Tarangire National Park for an afternoon
game drive, including a picnic lunch. Dinner and camping.
The Tarangire ecosystem is the third largest in Tanzania
(20 000 sq. km), of which the park occupies 13%. During
the dry season, the park has the second largest concentration
of wildlife in Tanzania. The unique acacia and baobab
vegetation provides a home for over 550 bird species,
as well as lion, leopard, buffalo and large herds of elephant,
as well as species such as gerenuk, oryx and eland, rarely
seen in the other parks in the North. The Tarangire Wildlife
Conservation Area is a joint venture between the local
Masai people and the business sector in Tanzania. The
Masai people have allocated large areas adjacent to the
park for habitat and game conservation, and they get a
direct income from its usage. We utilise private camping
areas with basic facilities. We have the opportunity to
go on game/bird walks, and night drives with spotlights,
as well as visiting authentic Masai villages.

more than 3 million large mammals all spread over the
vast 'endless plains'. This is home to the annual wildebeest
migration, where 1.25 million wildebeest trek in columns
of up to 40 km long in search of grazing, drawing with
them the predators and numerous other species of game.
From January to March the herds are in the southern area,
proceeding north through the Western Corridor over June/July
before entering Kenya's Masai Mara. They return south
in November to repeat the whole process.
